To manually pin a program (or file, folder, etc.) to Metro in Windows 8 Developer Preview you just need to create a shortcut in the following way:
- Browse to C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\Immersive Application Shortcuts\
- Create a new folder named “custom.application_8wekyb3d8bbwe”. (You can change custom.application with anything you’d like)
- Inside that folder, paste the shortcut to the file or program you want to add to Metro.
- That’s it! The shortcut should now appear in Metro.
This is perfect for non-install programs such as PuTTY or Minecraft.
